Gathering Sense and Sweetness

Gathering Sense and Sweetness by Stephanie Barenz

Gathering Sense and Sweetness

She was in Italy when a professor told her that artists learn the most through gathering experiences. Thus began the filling of her cart with experiences old and new. She piled traveled-to cities on top of childhood memories on top of culture shock, personal items and favorite places. If you look closely, love and loss are heaped in there, too. And she is still piling today. This painting will never really be finished – the cart is still not full. The brushes remain wet, lines of her poem are yet to be written. She knows that if she is going to tell peoples’ stories through art, she must continue to create her own.
